Objectives

  • To clarify the authenticity principle as the underlying principle for classifying an object as a heritage object.
  • To become familiar with the specific elements that can help define authenticity and uniqueness.
  • To associate the object with its heritage values.

Competences

  • Cultural openness, cultural awareness and expression.
  • Local and national cultural heritage awareness.
  • Creativity and desire to cultivate aesthetic skills through heritage.

Students will discuss three customers and their options:

Client 1: Requires a replica of the box in picture 1 because they remember that their grandmother had an identical one. Their family used to store their most important documents and jewellery in this box. The customer currently lives in Germany next to their parents who emigrated in the 1980s and wants an identical replica in memory of their grandmother and their childhood in Transylvania.

Client 2: Particularly appreciates the table model in picture 2. The client is aware that it has a heritage value. However, they would like to make some modifications such as changing the blue background to cream and adding floral ornaments other than the existing ones.

Client 3: Wishes to have this bench model made in order to place it in the orchard but does not want it to be painted. They mainly like the design and the woodwork and are less interested in the artistic aspects of the ornaments. Sitting on the bench in the orchard at dusk after a day's work is important to that person.

Students will discuss the three customers and their options and then fill in an activity sheet.

Client

To what extent does their choice comply with the principle of authenticity?

What is the value of the piece of furniture the client requires?
